The Oscars bring such a flood of celebrity information, gossip and drama, sometimes it can be easy to slip through the event unnoticed - unless you do something a little out of the ordinary.

Best actor nominee and star of Living, Bill Nighy, was spotted looking dapper in a suit, accessorised with a blue ribbon for Ukrainian refugees, as he arrived at the 95th Academy Awards.

It wasn't his outfit or the fact this was his first nomination for an Oscar in his long career that had fans talking though, instead it was the tiny toy rabbit he brought with him without any explanation as to why.

The Love Actually actor enjoyed his first ever Oscars nomination for Best Actor this year, losing out to Brendan Fraser who made a triumphant return with The Whale.

Nighy didn't arrive alone to the glamourous event though as he revealed he was holding a tiny bunny, which many have identified as a Sylvanian Family.

The collectible anthropomorphic animal figurines appear to have no connection to the About Time actor and Nighy didn't stop to explain why he'd brought the odd guest with him.

Journalist Karen Han tweeted: "Why does Bill Nighy have a Sylvanian bunny with him", which sparked hundreds of fans of both the toys and the actor to puzzle over why the 73-year-old would have one let alone bring it to such an esteemed event.

The rabbit appears to be from the 'Babblebrook' family, who were introduced to the line up by Epoch in 1985 - but even more strangely it seems to be covered in red sauce.

"Is there a reason Bill Nighy is carrying around a murdered (?) Sylvanian bunny," asked author Jenna Guillaume while another fan said: "Why is it smeared with ketchup?"

Many jokingly decided that this was Nighy's way of signifying that he is "behind" popular TikTok account Sylvanian Drama, which enacts short clips using the dolls. The creator never shows their face and disguises their voice, allowing for speculation.

Sylvanian Drama's official account has been retweeting this suggestion and other people who are saying he is a "fanboy" of the TikToks, which have over 2.3million followers.

Another fan said: "Bill Nighy in a Sylvanian Drama film adaption when?" Fans were loving his "whimsy" and saying the actor "can do what he wants".

The reality of the rabbit's appearance was not so cryptic, instead Nighy said: "My granddaughter’s schedule intensified and I was charged with rabbit-sitting responsibilities. I wasn’t prepared to leave her unattended in a hotel room.

"The stakes are too high. Where I go, she goes…"
