Meet Customs dog Milo – who has now sniffed out drugs and contraband cigarettes worth more than €14 million in less than a year.

The doggie detective is seen here posing with his latest discovery – more than four million illegal cigarettes that he found in Dublin Port on Thursday – worth a cool €3.4 million.

The seizure, which came from the Netherlands and were destined for Northern Ireland, was made up of cigarettes branded as Richmond and represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €2.7 million.

One man was questioned over the seizure and revenue say the investigation is ongoing.

But, according to a Mirror analysis, the haul is just one of at least six Milo has sniffed out this year – with a value of €14.4 million.

On February 13, the pooch was involved in seizing eight million cigarettes in Dublin Port – which would have been a potential loss to the Exchequer of a cool €4.95 million.

The smuggled cigarettes, branded ‘Lambert & Butler’, were discovered in a consignment manifested as ‘food stuff’ which originated in Poland and had arrived in an unaccompanied trailer via Rotterdam and were with some €6.32 million on the streets.

Just over a week later, on February 22, the same dog was involved in the seizure of 12.3kgs of ‘roll your own tobacco’, again at Dublin Port.

The tobacco was branded ‘Golden Virginia’ and ‘Sopianie’ and had an estimated retail value of over €9,300, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer in excess of €7,000.

The smuggled tobacco was discovered in a consignment manifested as ‘food’ which had originated in Poland and had arrived in a van via Cherbourg.

He was also involved in the seizure of 540,000 cigarettes at Dublin Port on May 5. The cigarettes had an estimated retail value of approximately €426,500, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €334,000.

The smuggled cigarettes, branded ‘Sobraine’ and ‘Dunhill’, were discovered concealed in metal boxes in a consignment which arrived from Cologne, Germany.

And on May 31, he also sniffed out 4.8 million cigarettes at the port, with a value of almost €3.8 million, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €2,969,000.

The smuggled cigarettes, branded ‘Lambert & Butler’, were discovered concealed in a consignment which had arrived from the Netherlands and was manifested as ‘plastic pipes’ and ‘rubber seals’.

But it’s not just cigarettes Milo can sniff out – last month he found hundreds of thousands of euro worth of cannabis.

He uncovered 23kgs of herbal cannabis and 2kgs of cannabis resin whilst examining parcels at a premises in Dublin.

The illicit drugs were discovered in parcels originating from Croatia which were destined for addresses in Dublin.

The drugs had a value of some €472,000.
