A swathe of cost of living measures announced in Budget 2024 are set to land in people’s accounts this week, with even more lump sum payments due next week just in time for Christmas.

Starting this week, eligible recipients around Ireland will be paid the first of a spate of lump-sum supports with some 409,000 households in line to get a €300 fuel allowance support, while others will receive a €400 disability support grant and working families will be handed a €400 once off payment.

These supports were introduced as part of Budget 2024 and are the first of a total of nine lump sum payments that will be paid between November 2023 and January 2024.

While three lump sum payments are set to be dished out in the week starting November 20, those who are not eligible for some of these payments will be happy to know that more are on the way in the week starting November 27. Next week people will receive:

  • €100 cost of living lump sum payment for people getting an Increase for a Qualified Child (to be paid per qualified child).
  • €400 cost of living lump sum payment for people getting Carer's Support Grant.
  • €200 cost of living lump sum for pensioners and people with a disability getting the Living Alone Increase.

Concerning the rest of the lump sum payments being handed out in November, Minister Heather Humphreys said: “The payments being paid this week will be followed by six further lump sum payments over the coming weeks, including a €400 Carer’s Support Grant, a double Child Benefit payment, and Christmas and January double payments.

“This suite of lump sum payments means that people will have extra money in their pockets, which will ease the pressure and stress that many households are facing.”

All the lump sum and double payments are automatically paid and people do not need to apply for them, with the Department of Social Protection urging people not to fall for scam texts.
