The FBI are investigating a threat made against UFC featherweight champ Conor McGregor, according to reports from the US.
The Dubliner is heading back into the Octagon next week to face off against American Nate Diaz, after his original opponent Rafael dos Anjos pulled out of the fight due to a broken foot.
Shortly after the pair came face-to-face for the first time at the UFC 196 press conference earlier this week, a chilling threat aimed at the Notorious emerged online.
The threat takes aim at comments the featherweight champ made during the press conference.
During the press conference, the MMA star said: “I honestly like Nick’s little brother.
“How can you not like him? He’s like a little cholo from the hood. But at the same time, he coaches kid’s jiu jitsu on a Sunday morning and goes on bike rides with the elderly.
"He makes gang signs with the right hand and balloon animals with the left hand.”
A Twitter user posted a photo of a man holding an AK-47 alongside several threatening messages aimed at the UFC star, warning him that the "hood uses guns, not fists".
Twitter user Zombie Prophet made the UFC aware of the threat and they are understood to have increased their security.
The FBI are investigating the incident as well, according to reports from American sports news site Fansided.
The Twitter account has since been suspended.
