Before Judge Patricia McNamara today, Garda Niall O'Rourke took to the stand and gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.
The garda told the court that Mr Ormond, of Deerpark Place, Kiltipper, Dublin 24, was arrested at 10.15pm Saturday night for the purpose of charge.
After the accused was charged and cautioned, he replied: "I'm sorry."
He is charged with driving a 07-D registered vehicle in a manner which was dangerous to the public and "thereby causing the death of another person, namely Kathleen Furlong."
Defence solicitor Michael Hennessy told the court that there would be no application for bail. There was an application for legal aid which was granted.
Garda O'Rourke said he would seek directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions on the case. Mr Ormond was remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Friday.
The accused, wearing a grey jumper and jeans, did not address the court during the short hearing.
