Christmas

There’s something about Paris in winter that feels truly enchanting. From the soft glow of twinkling lights to the scent of roasted chestnuts and the cheerful buzz of holiday markets, the City of Light shines with a special kind of warmth during the festive season. This year, Paris promises an especially dazzling holiday lineup, filled with concerts, festive Christmas markets, enchanting window displays and unforgettable dining.

Whether you’re planning a romantic escape, a family celebration or a cozy getaway with friends, winter is the perfect time to experience a more intimate and sparkling side of Paris. We’ve created this guide to help you plan a holiday stay in Paris and enjoy every moment of the season.

Christmas market

Paris Christmas Markets

This year there will be festive markets scattered across the city, each one offering its own charm along with handcrafted gifts, regional delicacies and warming cups of vin chaud.

  • La Défense Christmas Village – November 13 to December 28, 2025
We love visiting this market for its impressive size and festive energy. With more than 150 chalets set beneath the modern skyline of La Défense, it’s the largest in Paris and perfect for finding regional specialties and handmade gifts.
  • Tuileries Garden Christmas Market – November 14, 2025 to January 4, 2026)
This market truly lives up to its name, La Magie de Noël (The Magic of Christmas). Located beside the Louvre, it’s one of our favorite spots to spend an afternoon surrounded by holiday treats, rides and often even a small ice rink. The aroma of roasted chestnuts fills the air, and the views of the gardens and museum lights at dusk make it pure Parisian magic.
  • Saint-Germain-des-Prés Christmas Market – November 25, 2025 to January 1, 2026
Small but full of charm, this market feels like stepping into a Paris postcard. Nestled among elegant boutiques and cafés, it’s the perfect stop for anyone staying on the Left Bank. We love to browse the stalls, then warm up with coffee or chocolat chaud at Café de Flore or Les Deux Magots nearby.
  • Notre-Dame Christmas Market – November 28 to December 25, 2025
Set in the charming Square René Viviani just across from Notre-Dame, this market focuses on French craftsmanship, regional delicacies and festive entertainment. The setting—with views of the cathedral and the Seine—makes it one of the most picturesque holiday markets in the city.
  • Eiffel Tower Christmas Market – Dates to be confirmed
Set along the Quai Jacques Chirac, this one is especially close to our hearts since it’s just moments from many of our Paris Perfect apartments in the 7th arrondissement. The combination of twinkling market lights, live music and the Eiffel Tower glittering above the Seine is nothing short of unforgettable. It’s a must-see if you’re staying nearby.

The Galeries Lafayette Christmas tree and window decorations are unique every year. Plan your holiday stay now to see this year’s display!

Holiday Lights & Window Displays

Each November, the city’s grand boulevards and department stores unveil their holiday displays, transforming Paris into a world of twinkling lights and enchanting windows. While the official unveiling dates and times have not yet been confirmed for 2025, the celebrations traditionally begin in early November and continue through the end of December. It’s the perfect way to add a touch of magic to your holiday shopping!

  • Galeries Lafayette Haussmann – 40 Boulevard Haussmann, 75009
    Expected dates: mid-November to December 31, 2025
Always the showstopper of the season, Galeries Lafayette unveils its breathtaking Christmas tree beneath the famous glass dome, surrounded by lights and festive performances. The windows outside bring that same sense of wonder to life with playful animations and enchanting scenes that delight visitors of all ages.
  • Printemps Haussmann – 64 Boulevard Haussmann, 75009
Expected unveiling: early November 2025 (around 5:00 PM); on view through December 31, 2025
A visit to Printemps is a must each holiday season. The store’s windows are known for their imaginative storytelling, filled with color, music and whimsical Parisian charm. The grand unveiling in early November is always a joyful event that draws both locals and visitors eager to see the year’s theme come to life.
  • Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche – 24 Rue de Sèvres, 75007
Expected unveiling: early November 2025 (around 6:30 PM); on view through December 31, 2025
Over on the Left Bank, Le Bon Marché is a favorite for its refined elegance and creative flair. The store’s Christmas windows often blend art and craftsmanship to create something uniquely Parisian. We love to visit in the evening, when the lights from the windows reflect off Rue de Sèvres, creating a warm glow.
  • La Samaritaine – 19 Rue de la Monnaie, 75001
Expected dates: early November to December 31, 2025
Just steps from Pont Neuf, La Samaritaine’s windows are always a feast for the eyes. Expect imaginative displays filled with color and modern artistry, along with interior decorations that make shopping or simply wandering through the store a holiday experience in itself.
  • BHV Marais – 52 Rue de Rivoli, 75004
Expected unveiling: early November 2025 (around 5:00 PM); on view through December 31, 2025
BHV Marais is the first to officially launch the season, kicking things off in early November with a festive street event and its sparkling façade lighting up Rue de Rivoli. The atmosphere feels truly local and full of cheer. It’s perfect for enjoying an early glimpse of the city’s holiday magic before the crowds arrive.

Ice Skating in Iconic Paris Locations

Lace up your skates and join in one of Paris’s favorite winter traditions. Whether gliding beneath the Grand Palais dome or skating under the lights at a holiday market, each rink offers its own touch of Parisian magic.

  • Grand Palais des GlacesDecember 14, 2025 – January 8, 2026
Skate beneath the spectacular glass dome of the Grand Palais, one of the world’s largest indoor ice rinks. By day, it’s bathed in natural light; by night, it transforms into a glittering scene with music, lights and a lively DJ atmosphere. It’s an unforgettable Paris winter tradition.
  • Tuileries Garden RinkDates to be announced
As of now, the Tuileries Garden Christmas Market is listed as including an ice-skating rink as part of its La Magie de Noël festivities. However the rink’s exact dates and hours haven’t yet been fully confirmed. We recommend checking closer to your travel date for the latest update.
  • La Défense Ice RinkNovember 13 to December 28, 2025
A fun part of the Marché de Noël de La Défense, the spacious ice rink is at the foot of the Grande Arche and is surrounded by the modern skyline and one of the largest Christmas markets in Paris. It’s ideal for combining a little holiday shopping with a few laps on the ice under the city’s sparkling lights.
  • Parc André CitroënDates to be announced
Located in one of Paris’s most scenic parks, this outdoor rink offers real ice and a relaxed, family-friendly vibe. Skate beneath the open sky, then warm up with a cup of hot chocolate from nearby stalls. Often with an extended season, it’s a favorite for both locals and visitors.

Holiday decorations in Place Dauphine.

With a festive atmosphere, beautiful lights and excellent shopping, there are so many reasons why Christmas in Paris is a magical experience. This year, celebrate the holidays Parisian-style with a stay at elegant La Place Dauphine, a 17th-century residence transformed into luxurious and comfortable vacation rentals. With six of the apartments located in one historic building, and two more properties available nearby, there’s plenty of space for your family and friends to gather together with the added convenience of fully-equipped kitchens and beautiful private spaces to relax. Here are a few of our favorite things that make La Place Dauphine the perfect place to stay this holiday and winter season!

The Castillon apartment – one of the six gorgeous properties at La Place Dauphine.

1. Enjoy Christmas Charm Parisian-Style

Located on the Île de la Cité island in the Seine, the charming Place Dauphine is the most central location for enjoying Paris. Not only are you right in the heart of the city, but you’re just a short stroll away from sights and shopping on both the Right and Left Banks. The historic Place Dauphine is decorated beautifully for the holidays. But just cross over to the Right Bank to find an “Enchanted Forest” in front of the Hôtel de Ville. Complete with light displays, a merry-go-round, and a cute winter market, this is festive spot from December 3-January 2.

Across the Seine on the Left Bank is the lovely little Marché de Noël Paris Notre Dame, a Christmas market in Square Vivani (near Shakespeare & Company bookstore – another great holiday shopping spot to support this iconic independent bookstore!) with artisan sellers from December 9-26.

Of course, you won’t want to miss a stroll down the Champs-Élysées to see the Christmas lights and a visit to the Tuileries Garden Christmas Market, which is the biggest in Paris.

A festive welcome to La Place Dauphine!

During the holiday season, don’t miss seeing the elaborate window displays and decorations at Paris’s Grands Magasins department stores. The decorations inside Galeries Lafayette as well as their windows are always over the top! See Primtemps while you’re in the area and then head to La Samaritaine for gorgeous holiday shopping. From there, it’s just a quick stroll across the Pont Neuf and you’re back home at Place Dauphine! Paris’s covered passages are also a lovely spot for shopping and holiday decorations.

Will you be lucky enough to see snow in Paris?

While Place Dauphine is charming year-round, it’s absolutely magical if you happen to catch it under a blanket of snow. All of our bedrooms at La Place Dauphine overlook this pretty square. Just imgaine opening your window in the morning to this view!

2. Warm Up at a Cozy Cafe

During the chilly time of the year, there’s nothing quite so inviting as a cozy Parisian cafe. Warm up with a vin chaud or rich hot chocolate while you’re out and about exploring. Place Dauphine has several charming restaurants and cafes that you can enjoy right at your doorstep while staying at La Place Dauphine. It’s the perfect location to try traditional French winter foods. Or, with your full kitchen, you can even recreate delicious seasonal recipes at home during your stay!

3. Come for the Holidays, Stay for the Sales!

After the holiday season is one of the best times of the year for shopping in Paris. There are two set sale periods in France and the winter sales will take place from January 11 to February 7, 2023. You can find deep discounts during these seasonal sales. Discounts often increase as the sales continue, starting at 20% off and reaching up to 50% off (or more!) in the last days of the sales period. You’ll love the convenience of being in the heart of Paris at La Place Dauphine with the best shopping spots on the Left and Right Banks just a beautiful stroll away!

Christmas in Paris

Thinking of spending Christmas in Paris? Glittering lights, pretty decorations and Christmas markets create a magical atmosphere, with carol concerts, ice skating and special store displays to celebrate the winter season. The weather may be crisp – with even a sprinkling of snow – but that just makes the cafés and restaurants all the more cozy, ideal for sampling French holiday treats. Here’s some festive inspiration for enjoying a wonderful winter holiday in Paris!

Christmas in Paris

Festive Lights and Christmas Shopping

Expect to see twinkling lights illuminating key monuments, squares and streets during Christmas in Paris, alongside Christmas trees and colorful decorations. Head for iconic Avenue des Champs-Élysées for the most sparkly affair, lit up all night on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Alternatively, wander Avenue Montaigne, Boulevard Haussmann, Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Place Vendôme or villagey Montmartre for some of the best seasonal displays. Usually on show from mid-November, many lights stay up until early January to brighten the holidays through New Year in Paris.

Ice Skating in Paris

For a truly memorable experience of Christmas in Paris hit the ice rinks. Ice skating in Paris, hosted outside from November through to January, is an enchanting highlight of the winter season. There’s usually a rink in the Jardin des Tuileries near the Louvre and in Champ de Mars by the Eiffel Tower, both part of bustling Christmas Markets.

Christmas Markets

Traditional Christmas Markets – or Marchés de Noël – are popular in Paris offering winter cheer, fun fairs, festive food and drink stalls, and seasonal shopping. From November onwards, they brighten up town everywhere from Les Halles to Notre-Dame Cathedral, Hôtel de Ville, the Tuileries Garden, La Défense, Montmartre, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Trocadéro and Champ de Mars near the Eiffel Tower. Expect wooden chalets, Alpine decorations, folksy crafts, regional produce and sweet treats, hot chocolate and vin chaud (hot mulled wine). Specialist English, Swedish, Alsatian and Japanese Christmas markets are also held. Even local street and food markets get in on the action. Here’s a list of Paris Christmas Markets for 2021.

Department Store Holiday Sparkle

French shops pull out all the stops for Christmas and New Year in Paris, from lights to trees, fabulous foliage, music, animations, elaborate decorations and themed window dressing. Discover dreamy displays from all the big designer brands, such as fashion house Hermès, as well as the famous Paris department stores, including Le Bon Marché, Galeries Lafayette, PrintempsLe BHV Marais and La Samaritaine. You’ll also find gorgeous gifts and toys in-store, plus seasonal drinks and dining. For more tempting festive food, visit La Grande Épicerie de Paris.

Eiffel Tower Gets Merry

Stunning all year round, with its vibrant nightly light displays, the Eiffel Tower is especially showstopping over the holiday season at Christmas and New Year. The tree-dotted gardens below are free to visit, with enchanting mood lights and snowflake effects. Traditionally transformed for winter, the first-floor terrace boasts igloo-like transparent lounge domes, festive foods, kids’ tours and even visits from Santa.

Holiday Church Services

Get into the festive spirit at one of Paris’s inspiring churches. Many host special services on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day as well as atmospheric carol concerts, organ recitals and candle-lit midnight masses in the run-up to Christmas and over the winter season. Beautiful Paris churches include Église Saint-Sulpice and Église Saint Germain des Prés in the 6th, the American Church in Paris in the 7th arrondissement (for English-language worship), Église de la Madeleine in the 8th and domed Sacré Coeur Basilica in Montmartre. Gorgeous Gothic chapel Sainte-Chapelle also hosts classical concerts around Christmas.

A Guide to Christmas in Paris Christmas Lights

The City of Light is sparkly at any time of the year, but particularly so during the holiday season. From festive food to Christmas markets, there are a multitude of ways to get into the holiday spirit. While many of the events and offerings are annual, each year brings new surprises, new menus and new light shows. Here is our 2019 guide to Christmas in Paris, with some of the holiday offerings this Christmas season.

The 2019 Guide to Christmas in Paris

Festive Feasts

If the idea of cooking a full Christmas dinner from the kitchen of your Paris Perfect apartment sounds too daunting, have no fear– there are many delicious options for a holiday meal around Paris. Christmas dinner in France is celebrated on Christmas Eve, or the Reveillon, though many restaurants will also offer a Christmas Day lunch. Some of our favorite Reveillon options include Les Fous de l’Île on the Île Saint Louis (65€/pp). Check out some of our favorite restaurants in the 7th, near many of our rentals, for their holiday menus.

For a truly spectacular holiday dining experience, make a reservation at Ducasse sur Seine, a river cruise boat that allows you to view all the sights of the city while enjoying a menu created by Michelin-starred chef Alain Ducasse. On Christmas Eve, you’ll be served a six-course dinner with wine pairings, while watching the lights of the city dance on the water.

Holiday Events

For some holiday deliciousness from the mind of newly-appointed world’s best patissier François Perret, the Ritz is setting up a Christmas chalet in front of the hotel on Place Vendôme. Between 7 December and 5 January, come taste the hotel’s signature hot chocolate, traditional Christmas gingerbread and Perret’s own twist on apfelstrudel in the setting of the picturesque Place Vendôme and its gorgeous Christmas trees.

If you’re more into holiday music, why not pick up tickets to a candlelit concert? Choose Bach or Chopin on the 16th and 17th of December, respectively, at the American Cathedral; listen to the Republican Guard Band play holiday classics at the Theatre du Champs-Elysées on 20-21 December; or attend one of the free concerts at the beautiful Madeleine church on the 14th or 18th of December.

A Guide to Christmas in Paris Christmas Markets

Gift Giving

Christmas markets abound in the French capital throughout the holiday season, and each year brings more artisanal and themed markets, particularly with local producers. They’re the perfect places to find unique gifts for everyone on your holiday list. We love the ones in Saint-Germain-des-Près (Place Saint-Germain-des-Près, 30 November 2019 to 5 January 2020), next to Notre Dame (Square Viviani, 13-29 December), the Alsatian market at Gare de l’Est (4-20 December) and the local producer markets at the Marché Popincourt (7-8 December) and Le Hasard Ludique (1,8,15 December)

If you won’t be around for or can’t make the dates of some of the Christmas markets, you can find gifts from small brands and creators at la Fabrique du Père Noel, located right near the BHV department store. The annual pop-up hosts at least 40 different brands at a time and they rotate every Thursday to keep things fresh. It’s open daily until Christmas Eve at 14 rue Saint Croix de la Bretonnerie.

Winter Activities

There are plenty of winter activities around Paris to enjoy during the holiday season. Searching for fun for all ages? The Parc de la Villette is hosting the city’s largest funfair, with all kinds of rides and carousels, from 7 December 2019 to 4 January 2020. It’s a bit out of center, so it’ll feel like you’re getting away from the city for an afternoon or evening, and is the perfect place to bring the kids.

The annual illuminations are back at the Jardin des Plantes from 18 November 2019- 19 January 2020. Wander through the garden and enjoy the brightly lit sea creatures- this year’s exhibition is themed “Océan en voie d’Illumination.” Children and adults alike will enjoy the octopi, whales, crabs, and other sea creatures and birds.

A Guide to Christmas in Paris Ice Skating Galeries Lafayette

If you’re looking for ways to keep moving despite the cold, there are a number of places to go ice skating. This year, the Grand Palais becomes the country’s largest indoor ice rink once again from 13 December to 8 January; head there in the day to enjoy with little ones, and in the evenings for a club-like atmosphere, complete with a DJ and light shows. The hotel Plaza Athénée has also brought back their courtyard ice skating rink, which is included in the price of their festive teatime (or hot chocolate) in the hotel’s beautiful Galerie. The newcomer on the scene this year is Galeries Lafayette, who have installed an ice rink on their rooftop which is free to the public- including skate rentals!

Christmas in Paris Market

Where has the year gone? Kids are back to school, days are getting shorter and pumpkin-flavored everything is hitting the shelves. The holiday season will be here before we know it! Christmas in Paris, Alsace and all of France is truly special. From the food to the lights to the shopping, it’s an unforgettable experience and an amazing gift to give yourself and loved ones.

Christmas in Paris

We can’t think of a better gift to give yourself or loved ones than a trip to France for the holiday season. Enjoy the magic of Paris with one of our gorgeous Paris Perfect rentals, then head to Alsace for the best Christmas markets in France! Doni Belau of the Girls’ Guide to Paris has been a friend to Paris Perfect for quite some time and has worked closely with a number of the key people in the company. We’re pleased to share with you Doni’s incredible Christmas market tour of Alsace. Take it away, Doni!

Christmas in Alsace

Christmas Tour of Alsace

The best trips and tours are planned and scheduled far in advance, and the Girls’ Guide to Paris’ Christmas Markets tour in Alsace is no different. The Alsace region comes alive and shows its truly magical side at the beginning of December when the Christmas markets open in Strasbourg, Colmar and in all the darling little villages in between.

Christmas in Alsace Food

Alsace is also famous for its myriad of delicious white wines, such as the well-known Reislings and Pinot Gris and the lesser known but scrumptious Gewurtztraminer and Crémant (read: sparkling wine). Alsatian foods are in a category of their own. The tarte flambée, which is an Alsatian pizza, is thin and tasty. The chocroûte is a must-try, as is bäckeoffe, a hearty casserole dish. Kugelhopf is their delectable bundt cake. Plus, you’ll enjoy pretzels and vin chaud (mulled wine), while walking the streets and shopping the markets.

Christmas in Alsace

GG2P’s tour combines northern Alsace, with a stay in charming Strasbourg and the lesser-known southern Alsace area, which abuts the picturesque Vosges Mountains. The colorful half-timbered houses, which are indicative of the area, come alive in the Christmas season. Lights twinkle and every home with a window box is decorated for the holiday in high style. There is a myriad of Plus Beaux Village de France (most beautiful villages in France) in this region, many of which you’ll be visiting. You’ll gush when you stroll through the cobblestone streets of Riquewihr, Eguisheim and Kayserberg.

Christmas in Alsace

You’ll also have a chance to visit a cheese farm in the mountains, take a regional cooking class, eat at a pop-up restaurant, visit a hilltop castle, take a street art tour and learn about the special Christmas fabric that the town of Mullhouse creates yearly.

Christmas in Alsace

One of the best days will be spent at the Eco-Museum, which is nothing like it sounds. The creator of this outdoor museum has collected authentic antique homes, barns and other buildings from throughout Alsace and moved them to one spot to create a village, which is decorated with fresh greenery for Christmas. We saw Père Noël drive by in his horse drawn carriage on our last trip. While visiting the village, you’ll watch people creating all types of Christmas specialties, stews and mulled wine, as well as crafts.

Christmas in Alsace

The only problem with the GG2P Christmas Market tour is you’ll need a separate suitcase to transport all the unique, hand-crafted items purchased at the markets! But we have a plan for that too! Each market is different and unique. Some specialize in regional foods and gourmet items, special Christmas cookies, beers and ciders, while others focus on handmade crafts, knitwear, gift items, as well as a gigantic choice of charming items you can decorate your abode with back home.

Christmas in Alsace wine

The Girls’ Guide to Paris was founded by Doni Belau and creates insider week-long experiences heading to nearly all the regions of France and beyond. Ms. Belau began her company ten years ago and adores creating and leading extremely special gals-only tours for small groups. Exceptional lodging, Michelin-star to bistro dining with wine included is her hallmark. Bringing together groups of women from around the world and then saying goodbye as good friends is the reason she enjoys her job so much.

Christmas in Alsace

There is not much space left in this tour, so act quickly. You see, it is definitely time to start thinking about Christmas! If you do book, please tell Ms. Belau that Paris Perfect sent you. You’ll get a special gift reserved only for Paris Perfect fans and subscribers.

Christmas in Paris

Of course, you can’t come to France without spending time in Paris! Bookend your trip to Alsace in the City of Light. After all, it shines much brighter during the holidays. Get in touch with our reservation team to book your perfect Parisian pad for December. Give us a call at 1-888-520-2087 from the USA or email reservations@parisperfect.com.

Christmas in France is every Francophile’s dream. The food, the lights, the traditions–it’s easy to understand why they call it the most wonderful time of the year. But we’re going to let you in on a little secret: you can recreate these French Christmas traditions right at home. Here is our list of seven French Christmas traditions to adopt, from the most traditional to their most modern incarnations, to be celebrated whether in your Paris Perfect apartment or your own home.

7 French Christmas Traditions to Adopt by Paris Perfect Nativity Scene

Crèche

Other Christmas decor is negotiable (and becoming more and more popular), but one thing every French home has at Christmastime is the crèche, or Nativity scene. These aren’t your average church nativity scenes. Many feature entire villages aside from the traditional manger scene, particularly in Provence where there are many stands at each Christmas market selling the little figurines.

7 French Christmas Traditions to Adopt by Paris Perfect advent calendar

Calendrier d’Avent

Advent calendars are a big deal in France. Children eagerly await the 1st of December to open the first door, usually because there are chocolate or candy treats hiding behind it. Many larger companies have also adopted the Advent calendar idea for adults, filling the boxes with everything from skincare products to candles, and they’ve become a popular gift to give at the beginning of the holiday season.

Marche de Noel- 7 French Christmas Traditions to Adopt by Paris Perfect

Marché de Noel

The marchés de Noel, or Christmas markets, are an important part of the French Christmas tradition. Beginning usually the last weekend of November and continuing until Christmas Day or into the New Year, little wooden stalls pop up in the center of villages and cities all over the country. Not only can you buy festive treats and decorations here, you can often find smaller producers selling their high-quality goods in holiday packaging. The most popular are in the Alsace region. There are seven markets in the city of Strasbourg alone! Each market and city has its own distinctive flair, giving you the chance to buy regional goods. If you’re looking to recreate the idea behind the Christmas markets at home, seek out small businesses and local artisans for gifts that are both unique and good for the community.

Réveillon vs Christmas Day

If you’re looking to pull out all the stops for a French Christmas dinner, make sure you’re doing it on the right day! The biggest meal of the holiday is usually eaten on Christmas Eve, known as le Réveillon, instead of on Christmas Day. The starters often consist of foie gras, oysters, or escargots, followed by a bird–often a capon or turkey–and finishing with the bûche de Noël, or Yule log, as well as other treats like chocolates and nougat. All washed down with wine, it’s a wonder the French ever make it to midnight Mass afterward.

7 French Christmas Traditions to Adopt by Paris Perfect Notre Dame

Midnight Mass

While in places like the United States you’ll find most churches packed to the brim on Christmas morning, in France those who do choose to go to church will go to the midnight mass on Christmas Eve. Many churches will have a small reception afterward, and it’s a convivial moment between the people of the church community before returning home, either to sleep (for those without kids) or open presents (for those with impatient little ones).

7 French Christmas Traditions to Adopt by Paris Perfect

Bûche de Noel

The Yule log, or bûche de Noël, has come a long way since its origins as the literal log families would burn on Christmas to bring good luck in the new year. The current incarnations are like a seriously fancy Swiss Cake roll, and the master pâtissiers (pastry makers) in Paris are often incredibly creative with each new iteration. It’s the perfect festive Christmas dessert!

7 French Christmas Traditions to Adopt by Paris Perfect

Fête des Rois

The official end of the Christmas season is the Fête des Rois, or the Three Kings’ Day (Epiphany to US folks), and is celebrated here with the galette des rois, or king cake. It’s a flaky pastry generally filled with frangipan (an almond cream), and hidden inside is a fève (tiny baby figurine). Whoever gets the piece with the fève gets to be the king or queen for the day. Literally most bakeries sell the cakes with a paper crown. While in the US this tradition is more typical of Mardi Gras, why not start the party a little early this year?

If you’re looking to live out these traditions by spending the holidays in Paris, check out our most family friendly Paris Perfect apartments! Each has 2-4 bedrooms, meaning everyone can sleep in comfort and be well rested to open gifts on Christmas morning (or sleep well after the excitement, if you open gifts at midnight like the French). It was sparkling for the holidays and bustling with shoppers who were marveling at the interesting artisans from throughout France that had been invited to display their work, from graffiti artists customizing sneakers to talented jewelry makers.
