The countdown to the Late Late Toy Show has begun with Patrick Kielty enlisting some children to help him get ready for his first time donning a Christmas jumper for the annual RTE festive spectacular next week.

In a heartwarming preview dropped on Thursday, the new host was hyped up by some children as he preps himself for the biggest night of the year.

Throughout the short clip, Kielty is told just how important the Toy Show is, with one child exclaiming that it is the "official start of Christmas" and that "it’s a very big job".

Kielty is told the show is the "most magical night of the year", that "you wouldn’t want to miss it" and that there is "singing there’s dancing, and you play with toys" as he asks what the Toy Show is all about.

This Toy Show is the very first one the Co Down funny-man will host, and the cast of bright-faced youngsters made sure he knew what needed to be done, explaining that he needs to ask questions and has to be interesting and funny.

The array of children then psych the host up by telling him, "You can do this, Patrick" with Kielty repeating this back before a rendition of Santa Baby by Eartha Kitt plays out the preview, with a pop-up from one little girl sternly telling him, "don’t mess up!"

The Late Late Toy Show airs on Friday, November 24 at 9:35pm on RTÉ One and will be available on RTÉ Player also for those abroad who want to tune in for Patrick Kielty’s first show.

An Irish Sign Language version will also be available on the RTÉ News Channel at the same time and on the player, with an Audio Description version being aired on Sunday at 3:15pm on RTÉ One.

In the meantime, kids and Toy Show fans around the country have been asked to grab their PJs, get their slippers and cosy blankets as well and stock up on the treats, to be Toy Show ready.
