This is the shock moment a man puts his life at risk – by riding his e-scooter along Ireland’s busiest motorway.

The bizarre incident happened this morning during the rush hour on the M50 that orbits Dublin.

The man, who was wearing a hi-vis jacket and a backpack, is seen speeding along on the middle lane of the motorway – as cars and lorries overtake him.

The brazen rider then casually moves over into the slow lane – before taking the off ramp at the N4 exit.

The video was filmed by a car that was travelling in the slow lane of the carriageway and a man in the vehicle can be heard calling the rider a nutcase as he tailgates a car in front of him – before changing lanes.

Sources told The Mirror tonight that the rider exposed himself to the real risk of death.

“Any car or lorry hits him and he would not have a chance – he has no protection at all,” one investigator said.

The rider was wearing similar gear to a man who also rode on the M50 on a similar e-scooter in June - he was caught on camera at the Naul exit, close to Dublin Airport.

We approached gardai for comment tonight.

They said they were alerted to the incident this morning.

A spokeswoman said: “Gardaí responded to reports of a person travelling on an escooter on the M50 Motorway on Wednesday morning, 22nd November 2023. Gardaí conducted patrols of the area.

“An Garda Síochána reminds all road users of the requirement to comply with Road Traffic Legislation.

“If a member of the public observes a person using an e-scooter on a motorway the advice from An Garda Síochána is to report this incident when safe to do so.”

It is illegal to ride an e-scooter on roads in Ireland, including motorways.
