A man is set to appear in court on Monday over the hit-and-run death of this pensioner - after he handed himself in to gardai.
Gardai had been searching for the man since Friday’s road death of Kathleen Furlong in Tallaght, south County Dublin, on Friday and he presented himself to officers on Saturday.
He was detained for several hours before being charged in connection with Mrs Furlong’s death.

A Garda spokeswoman said on Saturday night: “Gardaí have tonight charged a man aged in his 40s following a fatal road traffic collision which occurred in Tallaght, Dublin 24 yesterday Friday, 8th September 2023.
“He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in South Dublin.
“He is due to appear before Tallaght District Court at 10:30am on Monday morning, 11th September 2023.”
Mrs Furlong, who was in her eighties, died after she was hit by the car in Tallaght on Friday.
The driver failed to stop at the scene – but officers located the car involved a short time later.
There was no sign of the driver, but officers were following a definite line of inquiry.
Their hunt came to an end when the man gave himself up on Saturday afternoon.
Local Fianna Fail councillor Cathal Crowe told The Mirror that the lady’s death was heartbreaking.
He said: “It’s always tragic to hear of a member of our community or any community dying in a such an instant and tragic way but it seems even worse when it’s an elderly lady like this just going about her day and for her life to be taken so recklessly and needlessly - it’s heartbreaking to say the least.
“There are so many victims in this but my thoughts and prayers are with the lady’s extended family at this very sad time and on behalf of our Community I’d like to pass on our most genuine and sincerest condolences to them”.
