A five-week-old kitten managed to stop traffic on one of the country’s busiest motorways on Thursday afternoon.
The kitten, named Mifty by the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA), was spotted straying onto the M50 by motorists.
With the help of the DSPCA and gardai the kitten was saved from sure death when motorists jammed on their car breaks.
A DSPCA spokesperson said:”This sweet little face would stop traffic and that's exactly what he did. Yesterday afternoon this tiny little five-week-old kitten was seen straying on the M50. How he managed to get there and stay alive is beyond belief. We were called to help but we couldn't manage this rescue alone.”

The charity spokesperson explained that they could not thank the Garda Traffic Corps enough as they “stopped traffic to allow our inspector to save this little wandering soul.“
The spokesperson added:” Mifty wouldn't be alive today without their help and we are extremely grateful to their expertise and dedication to save such a little life. Also thanks to M50 Support for their assistance with this difficult rescue.”
Mifty enjoyed a safe drive back to the shelter with a DSPCA inspector.
He has cat flu and is being treated in an isolation unit with medication and lots of care by charity volunteers.
