Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson will be doling out advice on love and relationships as an agony aunt on This Morning on Monday.
The 64-year-old former wife of Prince Andrew will host a phone-in during her stint as guest editor on the ITV show, which she is also co-hosting for the day. The Mirror revealed earlier this month that Fergie was in talks for a role on the show and yesterday she and ITV bosses confirmed our exclusive.
Fergie said: “I have appeared on This Morning before, but this time I am coming back in a very different role. I love live TV and am an enormous fan of the show, and the whole team is always lovely to deal with. I’m looking forward to being there for the whole morning, and thrilled to be guest editing the show, which will mean getting to explore some topics that I’m passionate about.”
She will co-host with regulars Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary on a two-and-a-half-hour show that will feature an interview with Sir Cliff Richard, a piece about the importance of defibrillators, and skin-care tips. Fergie, who took in two of the late Queen’s corgis, will also talk to “DogFather” Graeme Hall about rehoming.
She will also help viewers win cash in Spin to Win, and taste test some of the food in the cooking segment. The Duchess has plenty of experience to draw on for her agony aunt slot.
She married Prince Andrew in 1986 and they had two daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, before announcing their separation in 1992. Five months later, she was pictured in St Tropez with Texan millionaire John Bryan, who was kissing and sucking the Duchess’s toes.
She and Andrew divorced in 1996, but they live together at Royal Lodge, Windsor, and she supported him throughout the scandal over his links to paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. This Morning editor Martin Frizell said: “We are all delighted Sarah, Duchess of York, wanted to come back here. I feel viewers will be really interested in the running order she is putting together.”
A source close to the show said: “She seems so excited to be a part of the team. Many of the production staff are shocked at how down to earth and fun she is despite her background.” This Morning, ITV1 at 10am, on Monday.
