Shane MacGowan has the support of his loyal fanbase amid his current health battle.

The Pogues singer's wife took to social media earlier today [December 13] to post a snap of the legendary artist from his hospital bed with his fans online, as she shared her hope he will be discharged soon.

Shane, 64, was hospitalised for an infection on 5 December, with wife Victoria Mary Clarke asking his fans to send "prayers and healing vibes" at the time of his admission.

Writing on Twitter today, Irish journalist Victoria - who married Shane in 2018 - gave her followers an update on the Fairytale of New York singer's progress as she shared a new snap of the much-loved star.

In the image, Shane appeared to be in good spirits as he posed for the picture propped up against a mound of hospital pillows with his grey hair in a quiff, with dark red blemishes covering his forehead.

Victoria captioned the snap: "Fingers crossed @ShaneMacGowan will be home tomorrow! @poguesofficial."

Fans and famous friends were quick to send their well-wishes to Shane following his wife's update on Twitter.

Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh replied to Victoria's tweet with a thumbs-up and love-heart emoji, as one of the star's many fans wrote: "Take it handy Shane and a speedy recovery."

Another tweet amongst the hundred replies reads: "Shane Mac Go On Ye Good Thing you can do it, we’re all behind ye."

"I have everything crossed for you, Victoria. Sending love to you all at this stressful time," one Twitter user told the star's wife, with another echoing their sentiments and writing: "Looking good Shane, hope you’re home soon. And hope you’re good too Victoria."

Shane - who has been sober since 2016 - has been confined to a wheelchair for the last few years, after breaking his pelvis in 2015.

"Some days are better than others. He doesn't complain about being in pain, but it can't be hard," his long-term partner Victoria Mary Clarke told the Irish Post last year.

"Shane doesn't have any sort of disease but he broke his pelvis a few years ago and since then he's had trouble walking. I do get help with the caring but he likes it when we can eat together and when I'm there."

In October this year, the legendary singer partied alongside model Kate Moss as he launched his new art exhibition at the Andipa art gallery in London's Knightsbridge.

Before the star-studded event, Shane told fans to "Bring lots of money" as he appeared at the event in his wheelchair and donning dark sunglasses indoors - puffing on a disposable ElfBar vape as he chatted with model Kate and sipping on what appeared to be a glass of fizz, possibly a non-alcoholic version of champagne.

Last week, Shane's wife Victoria - who was the star's long-term partner prior to their 2018 wedding - was flooded with well-wishes on social media as she shared news of her husband's latest health battle.

Captioning a recent snap of Shane, Victoria told her Twitter followers: "Please send prayers and healing vibes to @ShaneMacGowan in hospital again and really hoping to get out asap!! Thank you."

After receiving hundreds of replies, Victoria followed up her original tweet later in the week with: "So many positive vibes and prayers for @ShaneMacGowan it is really really amazing how lovely people are and how kind and thoughtful."
