Shane MacGowan’s wife has sent a massive thanks to everyone who has supported the singer asking for love and prayers for anyone who is “struggling right now”.

The wife of the former Pogues’ frontman, music journalist and author Victoria Mary Clarke, has kept fans updated on her famous husband’s wellbeing since the 65-year-old musician was admitted to intensive care earlier this year for an unknown health problem.

In her most recent social media update on the Pair Of Brown Eye’s singer’s health, Victoria thanked everyone who has messaged with words of support and thanked Pogues’ members Spider Stacy and Terry Woods for coming to visit.

Peter Richard "Spider" Stacy played tin whistle with The Pogues with Shane while Terry Woods would take on bouzouki duties with the group.

Shane’s long-time wife also asked for “love and prayers for everyone who is struggling right now” telling them to “hang in there!”

Victoria wrote on X (formally Twitter) alongside a picture of the singer in his hospital bed: “I just wanted to say a massive thanks to everyone who has been messaging me and Shane MacGowan⁩ and thank you ⁦, Spider Stacy and Terry Woods, for coming to visit him love and prayers for everyone who is struggling right now, hang in there!”

Words of love and support poured in for the singer in the comments. One fan wrote: "So much love and positive warmth for you both. Shane is an incredibly talented man, but you radiate so much love and strength. My best to you both."

Another added: "I wish you both all the strength you need to persevere in this fight for as long as it takes. Loving and being loved by loved ones has no price."

While a third follower commented: "The struggles are real. Thanks for your love and prayers and know you and Shane are always a part of mine."

Alongside ⁦Pogues’ legends Spider Stacy and Terry Woods, MacGowan has been visited by a huge amount of famous pals since he was admitted to hospital.

Some music icons who have come to visit the singer, including Daniel O’Donnell, Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie, Imelda May, Clannad’s Moya Brennan and Nenagh singer Tom Creagh - who worked on The Rockier Road to Poland with Shane.
