Shane MacGowan's wife hopes he will be able to leave the hospital by the Christmas holidays as she shared a new update on his health.
The Irish musician, 65, who is best known for being a member of The Pogues, was diagnosed with viral encephalitis in December, and ever since, he has been in and out of hospital while battling poor health. It is believed Shane has been in hospital since June, however, the star's wife didn't specify what health issue the music star was battling recently.
Most recently, he was admitted to the intensive care unit after suffering from a mystery illness. Although the singer is slowly feeling better, his wife Victoria May Clarke revealed she and the hospital staff have been "working hard" to make sure he will be able to be home for Christmas.

Victoria Mary Clarke explained: “The timeline keeps changing. It depends on him being able to get his strength up.” Speaking to the press recently, she added: ": It’s very difficult if somebody is immobile for any length of time, as Shane was before he went into hospital.
"It means you are prone to things like pneumonia and bed sores, which lower immunity and make you weaker." Shane lost a lot of weight and still has a long road of recovery ahead of him. She said to the Sunday Independent : "Shane has other complications which make it difficult for him to do the exercises he needs to do."
Last month, after spending time in the ICU, Primal Scream legend Bobby Gillespie and country crooner Daniel O'Donnell paid him a visit. Shane's wife also took to social media to thank the medical staff who helped her husband while he was in ICU. She said: "You are so kind and thoughtful and it’s so helpful. Prayers for everyone who is in hospital!! And immensely grateful to all the staff!”
She previously revealed Imelda May came to see her sick husband as she shared a sweet picture of Shane in his hospital bed alongside the Liberties star. Captioning the snap, Victoria wrote: “Thank you so much to the beautiful @ImeldaOfficial for cheering up Shane MacGowan and giving us a sneak preview of your show about Kathleen Behan at the 3olympiatheatre..”
In the past, the legendary singer had been treated for viral encephalitis, a serious condition in which the brain becomes inflamed or swollen and can cause fevers, headaches, and seizures. The music star also contracted shingles while in hospital.
