The entire island of Ireland is on alert after Met Éireann issued Orange and Yellow status weather warnings ahead of the arrival of Storm Debi.

Storm Debi will bring very strong, potentially damaging winds, and heavy rain to Ireland in the early hours of Monday morning.

The Orange status wind alert was issued shortly before 9:00am on Sunday and is valid between 2:00am and 12:00pm on Monday.

This severe wind warning applies to counties Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wicklow, Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Galway.

The possible impacts listed by Met Éireann for the Orange status alert include: damage to exposed and vulnerable structures; dangerous travelling conditions; disruption to services and damage to power lines.

Met Éireann has also issued a Yellow status weather warning for wind and rain.

The yellow wind and rain alert applies to the entire island of Ireland and is valid between 12:00am and 3:00pm on Monday.

The list of possible impacts for the wind and rain warning include fallen trees/branches; localised flooding including wave overtopping and hazardous travelling conditions.

"Very windy or stormy on Sunday night and Monday due to Storm Debi, accompanied by heavy rain with a chance of embedded thunderstorms and hail," is how Met Éireann has described this Yellow status alert.

Separately, Met Éireann issued a third weather warning for wind and rain for counties Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry in the North of Ireland.

This Yellow status warning was updated by Met Éireann on Sunday morning and is valid between 3:00am and 2:00pm on Monday.

These newly issued Met Éireann weather warnings come hot on the heels of the devastation visited upon parts of the country by Storms Babet and Ciaran.

Storm Babet caused major flooding in parts of Cork, leaving businesses, homes and sports clubs destroyed in its wake.

Similarly, Storm Ciaran wreaked havoc in parts of counties Down and Louth, causing major damage to businesses and homes in places like Newry.
