The single can was autographed by 1980s soft rock legend de Burgh, 74, and his Germany tour team as a gift to his head of merchandise in 2012.
It was sold alongside a signed photo of de Burgh, known for his 1986 love song 'The Lady in Red', and a signed set of vinyl. The gift was originally given as a joke by de Burgh, who is from Wexford.
John Garrett, Senior Valuer for Sports & Vinyl at Graham Budd Auctions, commented:
"This was certainly one of the more unique lots to have come through Graham Budd Auctions. That said, it's hardly a surprise to have seen the memorabilia do so well, considering the huge following that Chris de Burgh has across the globe. We hope the lot is enjoyed for years to come (visually - please don't eat the beans!)."
The description of the item auctioned reads: “A nice selection of Chris de Burgh signed merchandise including a colour signed and framed picture of him in concert, 11.9 x 13.8in., two 12in. singles of 'High on Emotion' and 'Sailing Away' both signed in black felt tip pen on the front, a copy of the music and lyrics for his classic song 'Lady in Red' from his 2016 tour, signed in black pen and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity by tour manager Jason Ganner and signed colour flyer for the Kieler Schloss concert and a can of Heinz Baked Beans signed by Chris and the band.
“The condition of all items is superb. Jason Ganner worked on every tour with Chris de Burgh for 20 years and became a close friend of the multimillion selling artist, with the beans being signed in recognition of his daily breakfast consisting of the famous product and poached eggs, a tradition born out of the fact that eggs prepared in that way have to be cooked fresh and cannot be placed under a heat lamp or made from dried produce, a fact de Burgh found incredibly funny!”
Other highlights from the auction included all four autographs from the Beatles sold for £6,944 (original estimate £4,000-6,000), a set of Slade autographs sold for £87 (original estimate £40-60), a hand-signed David Bowie image sold for £136 (original estimate £60-80), two Oasis Creation records promotion pictures sold for £136 (original estimate £80-100), Led Zeppelin Live at Knebworth vinyl album sold for £111 (original estimate £60-80) and songs for While I'm Away book by Phil Lynott sold for £149 (original estimate £60-80).
